Mahopac Celebrates Italian Roots

The Italian American Club of Mahopac joined the Order Sons & Daughters of Italy, Fr. Licata Lodge, Carmel, in hosting a ceremony at the Christopher Columbus statue at Town Hall on Oct. 8. The master of ceremonies was IAC President Giulio Cefaloni. Among the community organizations in attendance at the ceremony were Boy Scout Troop 1 presenting the colors, Cub Scouts Troop 371, and Girl Scout Cadettes Troop 2749 retiring the colors. The sculpture of Columbus was erected in 1992 at Town Hall and is the work of local artist Anthony Padovano. It was commissioned by the Italian American Club to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Columbus landing in the Americas.
