Longtime Kent resident Kathy Kahng, a Democrat, has announced her candidacy for Putnam County Legislature, District 3, in the November 2023 election.
With more than 28 years of experience in business improvement districts, major cities, municipalities and transit agencies in North America, Kahng said she is well-equipped to take on this role.
She is dedicated to preserving open spaces, clean air, and water in Putnam. As a county legislator, Kahng said she will work tirelessly to represent the best interests of her constituents and make the community a better place for all.
Kahng’s career includes working with notable clients such as the New York City Department of Sanitation, Grand Central Partnership, Metropolitan Transportation Authority and more. Her company CityRax recently created and implemented the Smart Compost pilot program for the NYC Department of Sanitation, which has been widely expanded and appreciated by both DSNY and residents.
Kahng has also been serving on the Hill & Dale Home Owners’ Association as lake chairperson since 2013, during which she has worked to improve the health and community enjoyment of Palmer Lake. She has served on the Town of Kent Lakes Committee since its restart in 2016 and served as Town of Kent stormwater chairperson from 2016 to 2020.
Additionally, she is a trustee of the Putnam County Land Trust, where she serves as chairperson of the Community Engagement committee.
As an avid golfer and member of the Sedgewood Club for the last 20 years, Kahng is also co-chairperson of the golf committee. She has served as president of a 118-unit cooperative residential apartment building in midtown Manhattan for 30 years, and has been a board member on Manhattan Community Board 5 since 2021, serving on the parks and public spaces and transportation and environment committees.
